The feyoa is similar to the guava, but with dark green skin and light green pulp. Its very exotic flavor is a balance between the bitterness of the skin, which can be eaten and the sweetness of the flesh inside. It grows in altitudes between the 1600 to 2300 meters above sea level.
This fruit conserves its aroma all along. It can be used in green salads, in juices and smoothies, or eaten by itself.
This balance between its bittersweet taste changes as the fruit ripens. Some people prefer a not fully ripe, bitter feijoa, while others rather have a more ripe, sweeter feijoa. The firmness of the skin will show the consumer the level of ripeness of the fruit.
Once it is ripe it can be maintained in the refrigerator for two or three days.
